Our Initiatives
Over the years, the Trust has supported initiatives across community welfare, education, healthcare, environmental conservation, cultural preservation, and public infrastructure. Some of these impactful initiatives are outlined below.
Village Potable Water Supply
The Trust supported the establishment of a potable water supply system for the village. The project was inaugurated by Shri Chandrashekhar, who later served as the Prime Minister of India.
Melghat Cultural Preservation
The Trust has contributed to initiatives in Melghat focused on documenting and preserving the region's cultural heritage and spoken languages, while supporting a centre dedicated to the study and promotion of local traditions (work in progress).
Preservation of Historical Manuscripts
Through its support to Pradnya Pathshala, Vai, the Trust has contributed to the digitisation and preservation of approximately 2,500 manuscripts (pothis) from a larger collection of nearly 10,000 manuscripts.
The initiative also includes the digitisation and preservation of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar's handwritten works, documents, and books from his personal library housed at Siddharth College, Mumbai.
COVID-19 Healthcare Support
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Trust arranged and distributed a three-month supply of essential preventive medication to every resident of Alur village, ensuring continued access to essential healthcare during unprecedented times.
Documentation of Endangered Spoken Languages
The Trust supports projects dedicated to documenting and preserving spoken languages that are at risk of disappearing. These vital efforts include the preparation of dictionaries and linguistic records for Korku, Katkari, Pawri, and Hilali.
Mobile Planetarium
To encourage scientific curiosity and make astronomy more accessible for children in rural areas, the Trust donated a mobile planetarium to the Gadhinglaj Nagar Parishad for use by village schoolchildren.
Drought Relief in Maan Desh and Alur
During the severe drought of 1993, the Trust provided fodder and essential support for livestock across the affected village of Alur.
During the 2011–12 drought in Maan Desh, the Trust supported the operation of a cattle camp for one and a half years that at one point cared for more than 12,000 animals.
The trust also contributed to the construction of a bandhara (check dam) in Maan Taluka to improve water storage and strengthen long-term water availability.
Support to Higher Education
The Trust contributed to the establishment and development of "Laxmibai Sitaram Halbe College of Arts and Commerce", Dodamarg, a government-aided institution named in memory of Smt. Laxmibai Sitaram Halbe, with the objective of expanding access to higher education in the backward region.
Ongoing Projects
Virangula Kendra
A community space dedicated to promoting recreation, social interaction, and overall wellbeing among senior citizens, providing them with a safe and engaging environment.
Meghdut Garden
An ongoing initiative inspired by Meghaduta by the classical Sanskrit poet Kalidasa. The garden features trees and plant species referenced in the text.
Visitors can scan QR codes placed throughout the garden to access the corresponding Sanskrit shlokas along with their translations and explanations in English, Marathi, and Kannada, creating an interactive literary and botanical experience.
